Inter's promising season ended in disaster as they were annihilated 5-0 by the French champions in Munich. The Italian giants had been in contention to win a treble of trophies, but ended the campaign empty handed as they crashed out of the Coppa Italia and lost out on the Serie A title in the last game of the season.

The European final set a record for the highest margin of defeat in a Champions League final. Since then, they have seen coach Simone Inzaghi leave for Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal and Christian Chivu, who won the treble with the club in 2010, was appointed new coach before the Club World Cup. Argentine striker Martinez is still reeling from the horrific evening in Munich as he revealed the emotional toll of the upset, but he urged his team-mates to move on under their new coach.

WHAT LAUTARO SAID

Martinez told reporters: "I can't understand how it was possible to lose such a great opportunity in that way. I was sad, it was difficult to get to the bottom of the reasons, it took me five or six days to talk, I wanted to explain to my people. That night nothing was possible and everything was possible for them: it wasn't us, we weren't a team. It's football. And now however we have to move on, there is no other possibility, even if everything remains in the head."

But then he rallied his troops and urged his team-mates to move on, saying: "We have to turn the page and not think about what happened. I asked my team-mates to be strong in the head, I explained that in the USA we need one last effort before the holidays."

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Barcelona are close to finalising the signing of goalkeeper Garcia from Espanyol, with the club taking a firm stance on not needing to explain the decision to current No. 1 Ter Stegen, reports. The club views squad planning as the responsibility of director of football Deco and head coach Hansi Flick, and believes reinforcing the team doesn’t require prior consultation with individual players — goalkeepers included.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The move has reportedly left Ter Stegen outraged, feeling blindsided and disrespected by what he perceives as an attempt to phase him out without transparency. Despite his years of service and leadership, Barcelona remain firm in their belief that team decisions rest solely with sporting management. Flick will manage the goalkeeper rotation as he sees fit, and any concerns players may have should be taken up directly with him. So far, no official request to leave has been submitted by the German international.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

While Ter Stegen is determined to remain at the club and fight for his spot, there has been no shortage of interest in the goalkeeper's services. Manchester United are reportedly eyeing the Barca custodian to replace the under-fire Andre Onana. Turkish giants Galatasaray have also expressed interest in the former Borussia Monchengladbach player, while Saudi giants Al-Hilal are also rumoured to be keeping tabs on his situation at Barcelona.

WHAT NEXT FOR MARC-ANDRE TER STEGEN?

Reports from Spain suggested that the 33-year-old was scheduled for talks with president Joan Laporta and Flick to understand his future at the club. It is widely expected that the German international will be the third-choice goalkeeper behind Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny, which could prompt him to leave Catalunya this summer.

Hampshire 330 (Organ 97, Abbott 89, Bashir 3-88) and 34 for 2 trail Somerset 500 (Rew 221, Aldridge 88, Bess 54, Abbott 4-56, Dawson 4-118) by 136 runsFelix Organ and Kyle Abbott produced a ninth-wicket stand of 177 to boost Hampshire’s prospects of avoiding defeat on the third day of the LV= County Championship match with Somerset at Taunton. The visitors had slumped to 152 for 8, replying to 500, from an overnight 58 for two when Abbott strode to the crease to strike 89 not out off 152 balls, including 15 fours and a six. Organ contributed a more measured, but equally valuable 97.Hampshire were eventually bowled out for 330, teenaged offspinner Shoaib Bashir claiming 3 for 88 from 31 overs. They were invited to follow-on 170 behind and reached 34 for 2 in their second innings by the close. The day began with a big moment for 19-year-old Somerset left-arm seamer Alfie Ogborne, who claimed his maiden first-class wicket on debut with the fifth ball of the opening over when James Vince, on 16, edged to Tom Lammonby at third slip.Soon it was 64 for 4 as the next over saw Nick Gubbins edge Jack Brooks to wicketkeeper James Rew who held a low diving catch. At 80 for 4, Somerset introduced another 19-year-old in the tall Bashir, from the River End. He wasted no time dismissing Liam Dawson, who slog-swept a catch to deep midwicket and James Fuller, bowled playing down the wrong line.Hampshire were suddenly 88 for 6. Ben Brown and Organ were forced to play cautiously, although Organ cleared the short boundary on the town side of ground with a slog-sweep off Bashir. The pair put together a half-century stand in 121 balls. By the time rain took the players off on the stroke of lunch, Hampshire had reached 138 for six.Brown fell for 39 in the first over after the interval, getting an inside edge onto his stumps to give Ogborne a second wicket. Kasey Aldridge then had Keith Barker caught behind for 12, and the batting side were in deep trouble, still 348 behind. But Organ had settled meticulously to his task and found a reliable partner in Abbott, who brought up the 200 by lofting Bashir back over his head for four.Organ struck two more sixes on his way to a patient half-century, which occupied 148 balls, and the pair were still together when the second new ball was taken at 241 for 8 after 80 overs. Just before it was taken, Organ appeared to survive a sharp chance to short-leg off Dom Bess.Abbott looked untroubled in moving to a 76-ball fifty, including 10 fours, and advanced the total to 250 with a single in the same over from Brooks. Another Abbott four, off Ogborne, took the ninth-wicket stand into three figures from 146 balls and by tea Hampshire had progressed to 258 for 8.The new ball had little effect and an Organ sweep for six over midwicket off Bashir earned his side a second batting point before Abbott’s 14th four took the stand to 150. It was already the highest ever for Hampshire’s ninth wicket against Somerset, beating the 135 put together by Nigel Cowley and Bob Stephenson at Taunton in 1977.Finally, with the total on 329, Somerset broke through as Organ advanced down the pitch to Bashir, who cleverly adjusted his length to beat the outside edge and provide Rew with a simple stumping.Organ looked crestfallen as he dragged himself off the pitch, having worked so hard to keep his team in the game. He had battled away for four hours and 25 minutes, facing 206 balls and hitting nine fours and five sixes.Abbott was also denied a deserved hundred when last man Mohammad Abbas was pinned lbw by Bess for a duck. There were only 14 overs left in the day and Somerset skipper Tom Abell enforced the following on, probably reasoning that his bowling attack could soon rest tired limbs ahead of another assault in the morning.Abbott was sent out to open the Hampshire second innings with Fletcha Middleton and had made 15 when giving a waist-high return catch with the score on 31. Joe Weatherley edged Bess through to Rew with only a single added and Organ walked out at No. 4 with his team back in the mire.

His value has risen 1475% this season: Spurs struck gold on their own Yamal

Good news, Tottenham Hotspur fans, the season will be over in about two months.

It’s not been the campaign the Lilywhites’ faithful would have been hoping for this year, as instead of building on their fifth-place finish in the Premier League last term, Ange Postecoglou’s side look set to finish in the bottom half.

With that said, there are undoubtedly reasons to be optimistic for the North Londoners, as, when fit, the likes of Guglielmo Vicario, Micky Van de Ven, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke make an exciting spine.

Moreover, amid the seemingly endless stream of injuries the club have had to deal with this season, a number of youngsters have stood up and stood out.

As a result, they’ve made it onto Goal’s NXGN 2025, a list that celebrates the 50 best wonderkids in world football.

Where Tottenham's best talents rank on 2025's NXGN list

Starting with the highest-placed Spurs player on the list, who is not out on loan, brings us to the incredible Archie Gray, who is placed at 13th on the list.

The former Leeds United star joined Tottenham for around £30m in the summer, and while he is a midfielder by trade, he’s stepped up in a big way amid the club’s defensive injury crisis, making 38 first-team appearances, 31 of which have come in the backline.

Moreover, while the Durham-born gem has impressed fans and pundits alike with his performances and ability on and off the ball this term, his attitude and mentality have been equally encouraging and suggest he could be a future leader in N17.

Moving up four places to 17th on the list brings us to the brilliant Lucas Bergvall.

The Swedish maestro signed for the club in an £8.5m deal last winter but joined up with the squad in the summer, and so far, he’s looked entirely at home in a top-five league.

The former Djurgården star has made 38 appearances for Postecoglou, in which he’s scored one goal, provided four assists and looked like a bonafide future superstar.

Despite being so young, the Stockholm-born gem looks entirely assured on the ball and, as analyst Ben Mattinson puts it, ‘can change a game through his creativity or goal-scoring ability.’

With that said, another of the North Londoners’ teenage talents made it onto the list, someone whose value has skyrocketed this season.

The Spurs teen whose value has skyrocketed

So, as we’ve already spoken about the incredible Gray and Bergvall, it should come as no surprise that the final Spurs teen – who isn’t on loan – to make it onto the list is Mikey Moore, who sits in 22nd place.

The 17-year-old is one of the most highly rated prospects in English football at the moment, and when you take a look at his record in junior football, it’s not hard to see why.

For example, in 34 appearances for the Lilywhites’ various youth sides, the teenage phenomenon has scored 21 goals and provided 15 assists, resulting in a simply sensational average of 1.05 goal involvement every game.

Moreover, while he hasn’t featured as frequently for the first team as some of his young teammates have this term, he’s looked good when he has.

In just 16 appearances, totalling 632 minutes, the “fearless” winger, as dubbed by teammate James Maddison, has scored one goal and provided two assists, coming out to an average of a goal involvement every 210.66 minutes, which isn’t bad going for someone so young.

Moreover, even when he hasn’t produced a goal or assist, he has blown people away, as it was in the first league phase game against AZ Alkmaar that Maddison compared the Hotspur Way talent to Neymar Jr of all people while he’s also received glowing comparisons to Spain’s Lamine Yamal.

Finally, such an incredible record with the youth teams and impressive cameos for the first teams have seen the Englishman’s value explode this season, with Transfermarkt pricing him at just €1m, or about £800k, in October and €15m today, which is about £12.6m, or a staggering 1475% increase within a single campaign.

Ultimately, while things haven’t gone as well as they could have this season, Tottenham have several sensationally talented youngsters in their squad, including the increasingly valuable Moore.

Graeme van Buuren century sees Gloucestershire to victory

Graeme van Buuren posted his first Gloucestershire List-A hundred to guide his team to a hard-fought 23-run victory over Northants Steelbacks in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at Cheltenham.Returning after a month recovering from injury, the South African top-scored with a pugnacious 108 and helped stage a stand of 104 with Anwar Ali for the eighth wicket as the home side recovered from 142 for 7 to make 278 in 48.4 overs.Recruited on a short-term overseas contract, Anwar weighed in with an entertaining 61 to redress the balance after seamer Ben Sanderson had claimed three wickets in 13 balls to make a mess of Gloucestershire’s top order.Ajeet Singh Dale then returned figures of 4 for 58, including a burst of three wickets in 11 deliveries, and Tom Price took 4 for 26 as Steelbacks, who never recovered from the wreckage of 30 for 5 in the tenth, were eventually dismissed for 255 in 48.1 overs. Tom Taylor at least put up a fight, making a valiant effort to turn the tide in a combative innings of 112 from 87 balls, while skipper Lewis McManus contributed 54 to put Gloucestershire celebrations on hold.Signing off from the Festival in style, Gloucestershire have now won their opening two games in the 50-over competition to lay down a marker at the top of Group B.A large College Ground audience of 4,000 roared their approval as Singh Dale and Price cooked up a storm with the new ball, five of Northamptonshire’s top six batsmen failing to make double figures as the reply ran into immediate trouble. Price had Emilio Gay caught at mid-on and then bowled Ricardo Vasconcelos in his next over from the College Lawn End to set nerves jangling in the away dressing room.Singh Dale bowled Sam Whiteman and Luke Procter with the last two deliveries of the sixth over and, although Rob Keogh survived the hat-trick ball, he did not last long thereafter, edging a catch behind to spark pandemonium in the marquees.Only new overseas signing Prithvi Shaw proved immune to the chaos all around him, the Mumbai batsman standing firm and hooking Singh Dale backward of square for a towering six to demonstrate his defiance. But not even he was up to a task of this magnitude, and he eventually perished for 33, attempting to hook Paul van Meekeren and conspiring to hit his wicket.

McManus led a spirited fightback, raising a 60-ball half-century and dominating a stand of 86 in 14 overs with Taylor, only to hole out to deep square leg off the bowling of Zafar with 139 still needed from the final 20 overs. Gloucestershire could still not afford to relax while Taylor remained at large and he went to his hundred via 80 balls, with 15 fours and two sixes. The ninth-wicket stand was worth 105, Northants required a further 30 from 21 balls and Taylor was threatening to steal Gloucestershire’s thunder when Price had him caught at long-off to afford a tense crowd much-needed relief. White was last man out, smashing a return catch to Price and departing for 29.It had earlier proved a good toss to win, Sanderson as accounted for Gloucestershire’s openers in successive overs, teenager Joe Phillips and veteran Chris Dent both playing at deliveries outside off stump, offering catches behind and departing for 11 and a run-a-ball 30 respectively. When Sanderson took a straightforward return catch to remove an out-of-sorts James Bracey for one, he boasted figures of 3 for 20 from six overs and the home side were in trouble at 54 for 3.Van Buuren set about repairing the damage in partnership with the in-form Ollie Price, the duo raising 50 from 52 balls as conditions eased to suggest Gloucestershire might yet attain a competitive total. But there then followed a slapstick sequence that saw the hosts lurch from 105 for 3 to 142 for 7 and hand back the initiative to the Steelbacks. First, Price pushed a ball from Procter to long-on and, encouraged by van Buuren, set off for a sharp single, only to be utterly undone as Keogh’s brilliant pick up and throw on the run scored a direct hit and ran him out for 23.Van Buuren then clipped a ball from Keogh to mid-on and attempted a notional single, in the process taking new batsman Jack Taylor completely by surprise and causing him to be run him out for seven. Tom Price and Zafar Gohar then succumbed in quick succession to Keogh’s off breaks as wickets continued to fall in flurries.Shouldering responsibility for making amends for the run outs, van Buuren eased to 50 from 60 balls and at last discovered a dependable ally in the form of Anwar, who brought his considerable experience to bear.Driving fluently throughout, van Buuren struck 11 fours and a brace of sixes to reach his first Gloucestershire List-A hundred from 93 balls.A wily practitioner of white-ball cricket, Anwar played the supporting role to perfection, raising fifty from 49 balls as the hundred partnership arrived in the 44th over. Although van Buuren was run out by Procter in the 44th over and Anwar fell to Freddie Heldreich’s wrist spin, having helped himself to three fours and two sixes in an entertaining knock that comprised 55 balls, Gloucestershire already had a competitive total.

Chelsea are brewing their own Osimhen & Aguero hybrid in “Cobham’s Finest”

Plenty of Chelsea stars are featuring for their countries during the international break, with Pedro Neto and Marc Cucurella both playing in the Nations League on Thursday night and the likes of Reece James and Levi Colwill are involved in Thomas Tuchel’s first squad for England.

Cole Palmer has pulled out of the Three Lions squad, meanwhile, staying back at Cobham to recover from his injury setback, with the hope of being available for Chelsea’s first game back against Tottenham on April 3rd.

Spain's Marc Cucurella

But it isn’t just the senior stars who are featuring for their countries on international duty this week, as four academy graduates all featured for England U19 this week in their 2-0 win over Wales.

Chelsea's U19 England stars

Three of Chelsea’s academy stars started in the game against Wales, with Josh Acheampong captaining the side, playing as a left-sided centre-back, which isn’t his natural position.

Kiano Dyer started in midfield alongside Newcastle star, Lewis Miley and Tyrique George started on the left.

George and Acheampong have both played multiple times for the first team this season, with the 19-year-old winger making 17 appearances this season, providing four assists and totalling 713 minutes played.

Meanwhile, Acheampong has made eight appearances, totalling 421 minutes played.

Tyrique George

But there was a fourth Cobham star who featured against Wales in England’s U19 European Championship Qualifiers, who many fans are already very excited about, due to the high praise the youngster is already earning at such a young age.

Chelsea's own Osimhen & Aguero hybrid

Chelsea’s Shumaira Mheuka came from the bench against Wales for England U19 on Wednesday night, coming on for Manchester United’s Ethan Wheatley – who scored the other goal in England’s 2-0 victory – and netting in the 84th minute.

Mheuka has been labelled “Cobham’s Finest” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, stating the 17-year-old forward is a “jewel”.

The young striker has brilliant strength to initiate contact, often being able to ride challenges and bully defenders, even if they are slightly bigger than him. But he also has deceptive agility, especially inside the box, often crafting himself an extra half-yard of space to get shots off, much like Sergio Agüero.

This unique ability to shift the ball in tight spaces is extremely valuable for strikers in the Premier League, as they are able to create their own shooting opportunities, rather than relying on others to create chances for them, again reminiscent of Aguero, who was the master of creating his own shooting angles.

Whilst Mheuka has the ball-manipulation quality of an Aguero-type striker inside the box, he also possesses those physical traits of a Victor Osimhen, using his body to shield the ball and bully defenders inside the box. Chelsea has been linked with a move for Osimhen in recent windows, but Mheuka’s development could well save them a big chunk of change.

The 17-year-old is still developing physically, as well as technically, and if he continues to grow, adding some extra height to his advantage, his already strong base layer of physicality could become even more useful, making Mheuka a huge box presence in the Premier League.

The 17-year-old striker made his first full debut, starting against Copenhagen in the UEFA Conference League, before being subbed off at halftime for Christopher Nkunku. Mheuka was unable to get himself involved, barely getting any service, leading to his three lost duels and just nine touches in 45 minutes.

Mheuka has made 42 appearances for Chelsea’s academy across the U18 and U21 sides, scoring 19 goals, providing five assists and totalling 2,593 minutes played. He has also netted ten times for various England age groups, making 20 appearances from U15-U19.

Whilst he is still young and developing, many have the right to be excited about Mheuka, who has all the attributes of an excellent forward, with the physical levels required to play in the Premier League already developing nicely.

Mexico kicked off their 2025 Gold Cup campaign with a 3-2 win over tournament debutants the Dominican Republic, as Javier Aguirre’s side looks to defend the title they won in 2023 and secure a record-extending 10th championship.

Goals from Edson Álvarez, Raúl Jiménez, and César Montes lifted Mexico past a Dominican team that, despite being seen as heavy underdogs, caused plenty of problems – especially in the first half. Peter González and Edison Azcona scored for Marcelo Neveleff’s squad in what turned into a surprisingly competitive contest at SoFi Stadium.

Despite ’s perceived superiority on paper, it was the Caribbean side that created more danger early on. As Mexico struggled to find rhythm, the Dominican Republic began pushing forward. However, when the visitors were playing their best football, Edson Álvarez broke the deadlock with a powerful header off a corner kick in the 44th minute.

Mexico finished the first half strongly and came out even better in the second. Just two minutes after the restart, Raúl Jiménez doubled the lead with a well-executed team move initiated by Santiago Giménez.

The match appeared to tilt decisively in Mexico’s favor, but just four minutes later, Peter González pulled one back for the Dominicans with a well-placed shot that left goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón helpless. The response from Mexico was immediate – Álvarez once again rose for a header in the 51st minute, but this time the ball deflected off César Montes and into the net for the 3-1.

As the game opened up and Mexico looked poised to seal a comfortable win, the Dominican Republic struck again in the 67th minute. Edison Azcona’s effort took a deflection off Álvarez and found the back of the net, reducing the deficit to one and puttingunder pressure once more.

Mexico’s defense, already under scrutiny after conceding four goals to Switzerland and winning narrowly to Turkey in recent friendlies, looked vulnerable again. While Aguirre's side ultimately held on for the win, the performance raised more questions than answers ahead of tougher group-stage clashes.

AdvertisementGettyDID YOU KNOW?

Aguirre has now won eight of his 13 matches in his current stint as head coach of the Mexican national team. Meanwhile, Raúl Jiménez reached 40 goals with El Tri, putting him just six behind Jared Borgetti (46) for second place on Mexico’s all-time scoring list. Javier “Chicharito” Hernández remains the national team’s top scorer with 52 goals.

THE MVP

Mexico delivered a lackluster and tense performance in their Gold Cup debut, narrowly edging out a modest Dominican Republic team that pushed for an equalizer until the final whistle. Despite the 3-2 victory, left more doubts than certainties on the pitch.

West Ham midfielder Álvarez was Mexico’s standout performer in a match full of ups and downs for Javier Aguirre’s side. Álvarez broke the deadlock late in the first half when Mexico was at its worst and later assisted in the build-up to the third goal, just minutes after the Dominicans had pulled one back to make it 2-1.

Following the substitution of Israel Reyes, Álvarez dropped into the center-back position, where he was unfortunately involved in the defensive sequence that led to the 3-2 goal by the Dominican Republic. Still, his impact on both ends of the field highlighted his importance to a Mexican team that showed clear structural vulnerabilities in its back line.
