REVERÊNCIA LOGO NO INÍCIO

APODI ISOLOU A ÚLTIMA CHANCE

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

During Real Madrid’s 1-0 La Liga win last weekend, Mbappe was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Alaves midfielder Blanco. Many expected the French forward to face a multi-game ban. However, the Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) Disciplinary Committee handed down only a one-match ban earlier this week.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mbappe will now only sit out Madrid’s upcoming league fixture against Athletic Club. Crucially for Los Blancos, he remains eligible for the much-anticipated Copa del Rey final against Barcelona – a match he could have missed had the suspension been harsher.

  • WHAT BARCELONA SAID

The punishment has not sat well with Barcelona, with Rafa Yuste, the club’s vice-president, stating that the punishment did not reflect the seriousness of the offence.

Speaking to reporters, he said: "The tackle and the sanction is absolutely absurd. It was chilling and could have injured the opponent. It’s a disgrace."

    WHAT NEXT?

Barcelona and Real Madrid have already faced off twice in the current campaign, with the Blaugrana triumphing on both occasions, once in the league and again in the Spanish Super Cup. However, the intensity is set to escalate further as the two clubs are scheduled to meet again twice before the season concludes. The next chapter in the rivalry comes in the Copa del Rey final, where the stakes couldn’t be higher. That showdown will be followed by another high-profile league meeting, with both matches likely to have significant implications.

Roma now want to sign £350k-p/w Man Utd star this week, he’s open to exit

Manchester United could see at least one member of Ruben Amorim’s squad depart before the winter transfer window closes on Monday after a European giant came forward to try to take one of their stars on loan for the second half of the season.

Manchester United transfer news

Amorim is closing in on the first signing of his United tenure after it emerged that the Red Devils had reached a verbal agreement to sign Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu. United have agreed to pay an initial €30m plus a further €5m in bonuses for the Danish international, who was also wanted by Chelsea and Tottenham in recent transfer windows.

His arrival will solve a problem position for Amorim, with Dorgu likely to take up the left wing-back role for the former Sporting boss in a move that in turn could see Tyrell Malacia leave Old Trafford on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline.

They’ve made their first move…

There is scope to make further signings, but they may well depend on exits from the Theatre of Dreams, with Alejandro Garnacho on the radars of both Chelsea and Napoli and any deal with the Blues potentially including a move for Christopher Nkunku.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford could also leave the club after being frozen out by Amorim, though the Red Devils are still struggling to find a club to match his massive wages, believed to be as high as £300,000 per week. Now, another star could be out of the club by the time the window shuts, but it may require Manchester United to get creative.

European giants want midfielder on loan

That comes as a report from The Daily Mail, backed up by claims in Italy, suggests that Roma are keen to sign midfielder Casemiro on loan for the remainder of the campaign. The Giallorossi have stabilised after a difficult start to the season, and are looking to add to their ranks after parting ways with Enzo Le Fee earlier in the transfer window.

And they have identified Casemiro as the man to help them, with the Brazilian having been dubbed “magnificent” by former boss Erik ten Hag but Amorim having largely frozen him out since his arrival.

Though he started the first two Premier League games of his reign, he has since been reduced to two substitute appearances in the top flight.

In his place, Amorim has turned to young talent Toby Collyer, who has impressed in his limited opportunities to date in a Manchester United shirt. But Casemiro remains the club’s highest earner taking home a massive £350,000 a week for his time on the bench.

This is well beyond Roma’s scope, and it is reported that “United would have to subsidise his wages” for a move to happen, which could be problematic. For his part, “Casemiro is said to be open to the move”, but Manchester United are not actively looking to move him on unless a significant offer arrives, with previous reports suggesting that Saudi Arabia could be his most likely destination but those links since having gone cold.

As a result, a move is unlikely barring a late change of heart from the Red Devils, which is likely to revolve around sourcing a replacement for the Brazilian. Though clearly not part of Amorim’s plans, his departure would further vacate an already depleted midfield at Old Trafford.

Celtic could sign Palma upgrade in swoop for "incredible" £7.5m star

Speculation season is upon us and Celtic will have to navigate the next few weeks of the January transfer window, which officially opened for business last week.

The Hoops confirmed their first piece of business of the month earlier this week, as central defender Stephen Welsh completed a short-term loan move to Belgian side Mechelen until the end of the season.

He had only featured in one match in the Scottish Premiership during the first half of the season and Brendan Rodgers has decided that the centre-back will not be needed in the coming months.

Celtic defender Stephen Welsh.

The Scottish academy graduate is not the only Celtic player who could be on his way out of Parkhead before the end of the January transfer window, however, as there are a number of stars in a similar position to the one he was in.

Odin Thiago Holm falls into that category and he is reportedly on the verge of a loan move to MLS side LAFC until the end of their 2025 season.

Another Celtic man who could find himself playing for a new club by February is winger Luis Palma, who has been linked with a move away from Glasgow this month.

The latest on Luis Palma's Celtic future

The Honduras international has only started one game in the Scottish Premiership so far this season, and that has, naturally, led to speculation over his long-term future at Paradise.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph recently reported that Spanish side Rayo Vallecano are interested in a deal to sign the former Aris sensation in the January transfer window.

The reporter claimed that the LaLiga outfit have already made an approach to snap up the left-sided attacker, with a proposal that would see him initially join them on loan with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Celtic forward Luis Palma.

Joseph added that Celtic are reluctant to move the forward on from Parkhead at this moment in time, but they are also open to offers for his services, which shows that he is not untouchable and that their stance can be changed.

It now remains to be seen whether or not Rayo Vallecano’s proposal is tempting enough for the Premiership champions to sanction an exit for the winger, who has featured in the club’s last two league matches.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Joseph reported earlier this month that Genoa and Olympiacos are also interested in signing Palma, though, which suggests that there is not a shortage of suitors for the 24-year-old ace and that the competition for his signature could drive an auction that increases the fee Celtic can rake in for him.

The question for Rodgers and the Hoops board, however, is whether the money on offer is enough to compensate for what they would lose by allowing him to leave, and his performances over the past 12 months or so suggest that the Scottish giants would not be missing much.

Why Celtic should sell Luis Palma

Whether it is on an initial loan or a permanent deal right away, Celtic should cash in on the Honduran forward because his form has, simply, not been good enough to warrant keeping him amid such intense interest from elsewhere.

Since the start of 2024, Palma has produced two goals and zero assists in 20 appearances in the Premiership for the Hoops, including zero goal contributions in seven league outings this season.

The 24-year-old ace had scored five goals and provided nine assists in 15 league matches for Celtic during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign but his form since the turn of the year in that season has been dismal.

As you can see in the table above, Palma has offered very little to Rodgers on the pitch in the Premiership this term, with zero goal contributions and one ‘big chance’ created for his teammates.

Ahead of the January window, Belgian outlet Gazet van Antwerpen, via the Daily Record, reported that Celtic target Michel Ange Balikwisha is set to be available for a fee of £7.5m, and the Antwerp winger could come in to replace the Honduran attacker.

Why Celtic should sign Michel Ange Balikwisha

The Hoops should swoop to sign the Belgian youngster this month because he could come in as a big upgrade on Palma in the left wing position for Rodgers.

Celtic’s current forward has, as aforementioned, produced very little of note in the last year, with his struggles at the top end of the pitch, and Balikwisha could come in to offer more than him in the final third.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha for Royal Antwerp.

It would not be a transfer without risk, though, as the 23-year-old star struggled with injuries this season, missing 21 matches with thigh and muscle issues.

Celtic could, in theory, use that to their advantage and look to negotiate a lower price with Antwerp, due to his lengthy absence from the pitch this term, and then hope that they can help him to avoid any further fitness problems.

His form, when fit, during the 2023/24 campaign suggests that the potential is there for him to come in as a fantastic addition to the squad if they can keep him fit.

As you can see in the table above, Balikwisha was fit enough to feature in 33 league games last term, having also scored ten goals in 42 matches in all competitions in the previous season.

In those matches, the Hoops target, who was once described as one of a number of “incredible” young talents by U23 scout Antonio Mango, showcased his quality in the final third, with 13 goals and ‘big chances’ created combined.

Whilst they are not outstanding, Nicolas Kuhn level, statistics, Balikwisha is capable of consistently chipping in with goal contributions, which is something that Palma has not done for 13 months or so now.

Even worse than Idah: Rodgers must drop Celtic man who lost 83% duels

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers should instantly drop the forward from the starting XI.

4 ByDan Emery Jan 9, 2025

Therefore, the Belgian star, who also has plenty of room left to develop at the age of 23, could come in as a big upgrade on the wanted forward, by offering more quality and consistency at the top end of the pitch.

This is why Celtic should gamble on a deal for Balikwisha and swoop for the Antwerp dynamo before the end of the transfer window, whilst allowing Palma to join one of the sides interested in signing him.

Toby Roland-Jones rocks Leicestershire hopes with rapid three wickets

Middlesex in sight of victory which will put them in contention for Division Two title

ECB Reporters Network22-Sep-2022Middlesex have put themselves within sight of a victory that will put them squarely in contention for the Division Two title after Leicestershire’s fragile batting undid their good work with the ball on day three of their LV= Insurance County Championship match.Skipper Callum Parkinson took 4 for 69 and young legspinner Rehan Ahmed a career-best 3 for 50 as Middlesex collapsed from 209 for 3 to 271 all out in their second innings, losing their last seven wickets for 62 after Mark Stoneman (81) and Max Holden (91) had put on 165 for the fourth wicket. It left Leicestershire with a fourth-innings target of 275 to record their first win of the season. Instead they are in deep trouble at 13 for 4 going into the final day. After leaders Nottinghamshire’s heavy defeat at Worcester, a win here would take Middlesex into the final round of matches next week in second place just nine points behind. Middlesex face Worcestershire at New Road, with Nottinghamshire at home to Durham.Leicestershire had achieved their first objective for the day by finishing just three behind on first innings after Ed Barnes and Chris Wright added 21 runs to their overnight total.Toby Roland-Jones prised out the last wicket when Barnes top-edged a pull to be caught behind for a best-of-season 46, the Middlesex seamer improving his figures to 4 for 66 and 59 first-class wickets for the season. Another five will match his career-best tally of 64 in 2012.Leicestershire were in the ascendancy as Middlesex’s nascent second innings lost three wickets in the first 10 overs, mainly as a consequence of Parkinson’s bold decision to give his own left-arm spin a try with the new ball just five overs old.By then, Middlesex had already lost Sam Robson to a fine catch at second slip by Colin Ackermann off Michael Finan. Parkinson struck with his seventh ball as Steven Eskinazi’s paddle-sweep looped to short leg. When he made one bounce and turn to have a groping Pieter Malan caught at slip in his next over, Middlesex were 44 for 3, just 47 runs in front. But as Stoneman and Holden set their minds to scoring quickly in the hope of taking the game away from their opponents, Leicestershire’s front-line seamers found it hard to apply the brake. By lunch, Middlesex were 108 for 3, 111 in front. The fourth-wicket pair added 50 in 10 overs and maintained that rate of scoring, Holden reaching his personal half-century off 48 balls, Stoneman his off 74.Parkinson almost had Stoneman on 51 with a difficult chance to short leg at 139 for 3, but the pitch was becoming increasingly unresponsive and Middlesex were now in control of their destiny.By tea, their lead had been extended to 247, although the session had also seen Leicestershire fight back with three wickets.Holden, often easy on the eye as he gathered 13 boundaries, departed on 91 after uncharacteristically poking at a wide ball from Tom Scriven outside off stump, caught behind by a diving Harry Swindells.Stoneman went to sweep Louis Kimber, thus far an occasional off-spinner, but missed and was bowled behind his legs for 81. When Ryan Higgins was bowled by Ahmed, failing to pick the youngster’s googly, Leicestershire felt they were back in the game, in theory at least.Indeed, the momentum stayed with them after tea as Middlesex’s collapse accelerated, their last four wickets tumbling for nine runs as John Simpson, sweeping, was bowled by one from Parkinson that turned back a long way and Luke Hollman heaved a horribly mistimed pull straight to mid-on.Parkinson picked up his fourth wicket when another super delivery, perhaps his best of the day, beat Ethan Bamber’s push forward to clip off stump, before a Roland-Jones miscue to long-on gave Ahmed his third. It left Leicestershire to chase 275 to win, not the most forbidding target but a formidable one for a team of their thin resources. If they could have found a way through the last 16 overs of the day without mishap, they might have given themselves a chance.Instead, Tim Murtagh dismissed Sam Evans leg before with his second ball, Sol Budinger, off the mark with a thick outside edge for four, was bowled off an inside edge by Roland-Jones, who then saw off Kimber, bowled by a full delivery and Ahmed, dragging on one to his leg stump, leaving them 13 for 4 inside the first six.

Moyes now identifies "outstanding" £15m midfielder as first Everton target

Everton manager David Moyes has now identified an “outstanding” midfielder as his first Goodison transfer target, according to a report.

New arrivals expected at Goodison Park

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that he expects at least one new arrival through the door at Goodison Park before the February 3rd deadline, telling GiveMeSport: “For sure, Everton will do more. I expect Everton to do one or two signings from now on, and for sure, Nuamah remains a name on their list, they wanted him in the summer, that was not possible.”

It has been a quiet window for the Toffees up to this point, but as stated by Romano, they have been pursuing a move for Lyon’s Ernest Nuamah, who has been a target since the summer.

Bringing in a new winger is seemingly a priority for the Merseyside club, having also made contact to enquire about Sporting CP’s Marcus Edwards, with the move for Nuamah hitting a snag.

Moyes now personally driving Everton move for "talented" £40m midfielder

The Toffees boss has sounded out a deal for “one of the most talented players in England”.

ByDominic Lund Jan 23, 2025

Up to this point, Everton have been chasing players they identified as targets prior to Moyes’ arrival, but the new manager has now started to make his own recommendations regarding transfer policy.

That is according to a report from The Telegraph, which states the Scot has now identified Sunderland’s Dan Neil as his first target, having been an admirer of the central midfielder for quite some time. Neil was an academy player for the Black Cats when Moyes was in charge, and the former Sunderland boss has followed his career ever since, but it may be difficult to orchestrate a reunion this month.

The 23-year-old is a key player for the Championship promotion-hopefuls, so they want a fee of at least £15m, as selling him could derail their chances of returning to the Premier League.

Luton Town's Elijah Adebayo in action withSunderland's DanielNeil

Not only are Everton keen on bringing in a new central midfielder this month, but they also want to sign a left-back and striker, so they could be busy before the February 3rd deadline.

Neil is ready for Premier League football

The Englishman has been impressing in a Sunderland shirt for quite some time, having been lauded as “outstanding” by reporter Philip Buckingham back in December 2022, and he has been almost ever-present in the Championship this season.

Given that the South Shields-born midfielder is captain, and an integral part of the team, it is difficult to envisage the Black Cats sanctioning his departure this month, however, and he may not want to leave his boyhood club during their push for promotion.

At the end of the season, Neil will have just one year remaining on his contract, and if Sunderland fail to win promotion they may be forced to cash-in for a lower fee, so it may be wise for Everton to hold off until then.

Moyes is clearly a big fan of the £15m-rated maestro, having tracked his career for quite some time, so it is worth revisiting a deal in the summer, considering there is not a pressing need to sign a central midfielder this month.

Mohammed Shami tests positive for Covid-19, Umesh Yadav named as replacement

Mohammed Shami has tested positive for Covid-19, and will not take part in India’s T20I series against Australia starting on Tuesday in Mohali. Umesh Yadav, who was originally meant to undergo rehab for a quad injury in Bengaluru, has been called into the squad and is now in line to play his first T20I in over three years.Despite his sporadic appearances in international cricket, Umesh has been a regular in the IPL circuit and was among the best bowlers in the powerplay this past season, picking up 16 wickets overall at an economy rate of 7.06. He has recent form behind him as well, having topped the charts for Middlesex in the Royal London One-Day Cup.The games against Australia – on September 20, 23 and 25 – and those against South Africa – on September 28, October 2 and October 4 – are the last T20Is that India play before travelling to the T20 World Cup next month. As such, they presented an opportunity for the team to see how Shami holds up after a two-month lay-off from cricket.Shami, 32, hasn’t been seen on the field since July 2022 and has not played a T20I since November 2021. Nevertheless, his experience, and his performance in the IPL – 20 wickets in 16 matches for the champions Gujarat Titans – were seen as key assets, prompting the selectors to keep him on standby for the World Cup.This is the second time in about a month that India have had to deal with a key member of their team going down with Covid-19. Just before the Asia Cup, their head coach Rahul Dravid was diagnosed with the virus and had to delay his travel to the UAE. He was reported to have only mild symptoms and was eventually able to link back up with the team after their opening game against Pakistan.

Tabraiz Shamsi hailed his Trent Rockets team-mates as the “best he has worked with” after thanking them for their support following the hospitalisation of his two-year-old son.Shamsi dedicated his two-wicket performance to his son, wife and team-mates as Rockets defeated Oval Invincibles by 25 runs at Trent Bridge on Wednesday night.Afterwards, Shamsi revealed he had spent the past week with his wife, Khadija Shariff, by his son’s bedside, rushing back after Rockets’ previous match against Birmingham Phoenix on Monday, and praised the support he had received from his team-mates.”This performance, I’d like to dedicate to them as well as my wife, who’s at home with my little man, who’s not doing too well,” he said. “Big credit to my team behind the scenes. It’s been a rough, rough week so I’ve been quite mellow the past couple of games and they haven’t gone as well for me.”[My son] is here in Nottingham. We’ve had quite a rough week as he has been in hospital the previous game as well. I came straight from the hospital, I played, and then I went straight back to the hospital to be with my wife and him.”That’s why I would like to give a lot of credit to the coach, the team management and my teammates. They’ve never once let me feel any negativity, and they’ve been there for me, you know? I’ve never felt that in any other team so far in my career.”Related

Shamsi’s dismissal of Jason Roy brought about a 30-yard sprint and his trademark celebration, taking off his shoe and pretending to dial a telephone with it as he pointed directly at the dressing room.”They just told me, ‘look, if you take wickets today, we want to see you celebrating, and we are right behind you’. So my celebrations are for them,” Shamsi said.”When you play for any team you want to contribute. My job is to take wickets, so it was nice and especially in my first home game.”Victory put Rockets in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages and they had Alex Hales to thank after his innings of 59 from 29 balls. But for Invincibles’ Jordan Cox, who scored 61 from 33 balls, Shamsi was the difference maker. He said: “For Shamsi to bowl like he did and to get two wickets was a killer really. But he’s a world-class bowler, and unfortunately, he got the better of us today.”
