Paris Saint-Germain wages: Who is the best paid player at Les Parisiens and everything you need to know about PSG's salary bill

How much do the PSG players earn annually and who receives the most into their account?

Paris Saint-Germain are considered one of Europe's football powerhouses, with their dominance in Ligue 1 solidifying their stature. The acquisition by Qatari billionaire Nasser al-Khelaifi has propelled PSG to global prominence, both on and off the pitch.

Despite their national success, PSG's pursuit of the UEFA Champions League trophy remains elusive, which is surprising given their financial strength and track record of signing top-tier talent like Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe. This failure to secure Europe's top prize has been a major puzzle for the club.

However, following Mbappe's departure, PSG have shifted their strategy. The focus is now on building a squad that balances youthful potential with experienced players. The club aims to invest in young talent capable of delivering world-class performances for the long term, while still spending big, in hopes of finally capturing the Champions League title they've long coveted.

So, who is the highest earner at the Parc des Princes this season? And who is on the opposite end of the spectrum?

Gianluigi Donnarumma is not only the highest-paid goalkeeper at PSG, but also among the top-earning players at the club with a salary of over €12 million.

Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who serves as Donnarumma's deputy in goal, is the second-highest goalkeeper with a salary of around €3 million, while Arnau Tenas is the lowest-paid goalie as the third-choice.

    Name Salary
    Gianluigi Donnarumma €12,730,000
    Matvey Safonov €3,090,000
    Arnau Tenas €1,200,000

    Defenders

This one might come as a shock. Neither club captain Marquinhos, nor Achraf Hakimi are the highest-paid defenders at PSG, with that title going to Lucas Hernandez, who earns a whopping €19 million gross annually.

Surprisingly, Nuno Mendes is the second-lowest paid defender at PSG, while 18-year-old right-back Yoram Zague is the lowest-paid.

    Name Salary
    Lucas Hernandez €19,000,000
    Marquinhos €16,800,000

    Midfielders

The fans will not be too perplexed to find out that Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves share the distinction of being the highest-paid midfielder at the club.

In third place is the exciting youngster Warren Zaire-Emery, followed by Kang-in Lee. However, the fact that Vitinha finds himself below all the aforementioned names might not sit well with the PSG faithful after the sort of performances he has given since arriving in 2022.

Promising teenager Senny Mayulu is the lowest-paid PSG midfielder.

    Name Salary
    Fabian Ruiz €9,090,000
    Joao Neves €9,090,000
    Warren Zaire-Emery €8,400,000

Ousmane Dembele will have no complaints about his €20 million annual package, which made him the highest-paid player at the club following his arrival from Barcelona in 2023. In second place on this list is new signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The fans won't be too pleased to find out that Marco Asensio is the third-highest paid attacker at the club, ahead of Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos.

Ibrahim Mbaye is the lowest-paid attacker in not just attack, but also overall.

Clement could land Hagi upgrade by signing "exciting" Rangers target

Glasgow Rangers bounced back from their disappointing defeat to Lyon in the Europa League with a comfortable win over St Johnstone at Ibrox on Sunday night.

The Light Blues secured all three points thanks to a brace from Wolfsburg loanee Vaclav Cerny, who scored either side of half-time, and head into the international break off the back of a win.

Philippe Clement will surely be pleased with his winger scoring two goals and the side claiming all three points in the Scottish Premiership, but there was an eventful cameo for Ianis Hagi off the bench.

The Romania international had been omitted from the squad over the summer due to a contractual situation that has now been resolved, as confirmed by the manager, and has now returned to the group.

Hagi made his comeback against St Johnstone, with his first appearance under Clement, and started brilliantly with some neat touches and a superb assist for Cerny’s second goal, fizzing a pass into the attacker’s feet in the box.

However, the 25-year-old midfielder was then shown a straight red card for a rash, studs-up, challenge in the middle of the park, with the returning maestro perhaps too eager to make an impression on the Ibrox crowd.

Ianis Hagi's Rangers struggles

Since his impressive 2020/21 campaign in the title-winning year under Steven Gerrard, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists in the league, Hagi has struggled with form and injuries in Glasgow.

After the unbeaten season, the Romania international only managed two goals and one assist in 15 appearances in the Premiership before suffering a long-term knee injury.

He was out of action from 21st January 2022 to the 27th January 2023 and missed a staggering 69 competitive matches for Rangers before his return to training.

Between the second half of the 2022/23 campaign and the first month of the 2023/24 season, Hagi made 13 appearances in all competitions under Michael Beale and contributed with one goal and zero assists.

The former Light Blues head coach then decided that the midfielder would not be in his plans for the season and sent him out on loan to Spanish side Alaves on loan.

As you can see in the table above, Hagi endured a difficult year in LaLiga in his first full campaign after recovering from his long-term knee injury.

The Rangers whiz failed to score a single goal in 22 league appearances for Alaves but did create four ‘big chances’ in eight starts, which shows that he was still able to offer some creativity in the middle of the park or out wide.

It remains to be seen if Hagi can recapture his form from the 2020/21 campaign and Clement could land an instant upgrade on the attacker by revisiting one of the club’s transfer targets from the recent summer transfer window – Morgan Whittaker.

Rangers' long-term interest in Morgan Whittaker

Back in August, Football Insider reported that the Light Blues wanted to add another top-class forward option to their squad before the end of the window and that Whittaker was one of their targets – alongside Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland.

The report claimed that they faced competition from Premier League sides Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were also keen to snap up the English winger.

It added that the Scottish giants had also attempted to sign Whittaker from Plymouth Argyle during the January transfer window at the start of 2024, but they had an offer turned down for the left-footed sensation.

Those were not the first two times that the Light Blues had attempted to sign the winger, however, as they had also been interested in signng him during his days with Swansea.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Rangers had two offers turned down by the Swans during the January transfer window in 2023, before they returned with a third bid of £2m.

Ultimately, they failed to get a deal over the line for Whittaker at the start of 2023 and in both of the transfer windows this year, but Clement could hope that it is fourth time lucky for the Gers at the start of 2025 and sign him as an instant upgrade on Hagi ahead of the second half of the season.

Why Rangers should sign Morgan Whittaker

The 23-year-old star, like Hagi, can play out wide on either flank or through the middle as an attacking midfielder, which means that the Belgian boss could use him in a multitude of roles behind Cyriel Dessers.

Since the start of the 2023/24 campaign, Whittaker has been in sublime form in the Championship and proven himself to be a very capable performer as both a scorer and a creator of goals.

So far this season, the left-footed wizard has created ten chances and scored two goals in nine appearances in the second tier for Wayne Rooney’s side. This means that he has already scored more goals this term than Hagi has managed since returning from his knee injury at the start of last year.

Last term, Whittaker’s form in the league was good enough to earn himself a place in the EFL Team of the Season as part of a front three that included Georgino Rutter and Crysencio Summerville, both of Leeds United at the time.

As you can see in the table above, the English sensation, who was hailed as “exciting” by his former boss Steven Schumacher, was directly involved in 27 goals in 46 games in the Championship.

He showcased his terrific finishing skills, with 19 goals from just 10.97 xG, and was let down by his teammates at times as they only scored eight times from his ten ‘big chances’ created.

These statistics, and his form this term, suggest that Whittaker would arrive at Ibrox as a huge and instant upgrade on Hagi, whether playing centrally or out wide, as he appears to offer far more quality as both a scorer and a creator of goals from an attacking midfield role.

This is why the Gers head coach should attempt to revisit the club’s interest in Whittaker with a January swoop for the Plymouth star, if possible, to improve his team.

Derby County set for quadruple injury boost including 19 y/o sensation

Derby County have been handed a huge boost ahead of their trip to Millwall on October 19, with a number of the club’s currently injured players expected to be back or close to fitness for the match at The Den.

The Rams have had eight players either out injured or working their way back to fitness in recent weeks, including experienced figures like Ben Osborn and Tom Barkhuizen.

Fortunately for manager Paul Warne, both of those players could now be fit for the game against Millwall, according to The Derby Telegraph. Indeed, Osborn and Barkhuizen are just two of four expected to return to training during this international break, with Liam Thompson and David Ozoh also on the brink of returns, although the latter is not expected to be fully fit in time for Millwall.

Warne will be hoping the return of the other three players can help turn the tide on his side’s poor away form. The Rams have lost all four of their away games in the Championship this term, conceding nine goals in the process.

Best yet to come from Ozoh

One man who might not be fit in time for Derby’s clash with Millwall is Ozoh. The Crystal Palace loanee was forced off in the second half of the Rams’ 1-0 win over Cardiff City on September 14 with a hamstring problem and has not featured since.

According to the Derby Telegraph, the midfielder will train next week but the “Millwall game might come too soon for him”. On Wednesday, Ozoh shared a couple of snaps of himself back on the training pitch with Warne to his Instagram story, captioning the pictures: “Step by step.”

Ozoh, 19, joined Derby on loan from Palace in the summer after having made 12 appearances for the Premier League outfit last season. Though he hadn’t played much for Rams before he succumbed to injury, the young midfielder turned heads with his performances.

Among those to have praised Ozoh is former Ram Shaun Barker, who made over 100 appearances for Derby between 2009 and 2015.

Speaking with Rams TV after Derby’s 3-0 win over Bristol City at the end of August, in which Ozoh was on the scoresheet, Barker said: “As soon as they got the structure I thought he grew into the game. If you gave him another three or four minutes for choosing the player of the match he might have got it.

“He was that good in the last 5-10 minutes, he seemed to be more commanding, making more tackles didn’t lose the ball, drove forward got his goal. What a player he is going to be for Derby this year.”

Warne has also been extremely complimentary of Ozoh. Shortly after he joined the club back in July, Warne said of the midfielder, via The Derby Telegraph: “He keeps the ball moving and he is a really athletic and tenacious player. He breaks play up and gets us on attacks quick.

“He’s a really humble, down to earth kid who is going to use this loan to develop as a man and as a player.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Those at the Etihad Stadium appear to have few concerns when it comes to the club's standing among the elite, with more big money being splashed out in the winter transfer window of 2025. Alongside tying star striker Erling Haaland to a new 10-year contract, City have also snapped up Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, Omar Marmouch and Vitor Reis.

  • WHAT FOOTBALL FINANCE EXPERT SAID

That spending points towards confidence that the harshest of FFP sanctions will be avoided. Football finance expert Stefan Borson shares that opinion, telling : “It seems to be simple business logic. If you're sat in a boardroom and you have serious concerns about the outcome of any litigation or any uncertainty, and that apply also to promotion and relegation. If you have uncertainty within the boardroom, especially of this sort of scale, then you would be cautious if you were nervous about the outcome. Because a consequence of that case going against them is that they will have to slash the wage bill very quickly and there is going to have to be a fire sale of footballers.

“There seems to be no way you can go and get within a championship-type Financial Fair Play regime. To me, you have to think of it as a business. But as owners and as a business, I would have thought that if they had severe doubts about the case, they would have been more cautious.”

Arsenal given till January 16 to sign £21m star after he agreed summer move

Arsenal have been handed a January 16 deadline to complete the signing of a future star for just £21 million, with the player himself already agreeing personal terms in the summer window.

Arsenal's transfer plans for January explained

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is attempting to guide the north Londoners to their first Premier League title in 21 years, having sealed transfer deals for goalkeeper David Raya, defender Riccardo Calafiori, midfielder Mikel Merino, shot-stopper Neto and winger Raheem Sterling over the summer window.

The aforementioned five have reinforced Arsenal’s options in key areas all over the pitch, which is testament to Edu’s extensive work behind-the-scenes, but it is believed they could add to their ranks in January as well.

Martin Odegaard’s long-term ankle injury highlights just how vulnerable they can become at a moment’s notice, with star forward Kai Havertz withdrawing from international duty for Germany and Bukayo Saka sent home by England in what were real scares for Arteta recently.

Saka’s hamstring problem isn’t serious, as confirmed by Lee Carlsey, while Havertz is expected to be fit to take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this weekend.

While scares around Havertz and Saka have been alleviated, their absences would’ve been a major cause for concern for Arteta, and reason to contemplate signing alternative options for the pair in January. Arsenal are believed to be targeting a new striker who can alternate with Havertz, as doubts surround Gabriel Jesus’ ability to lead the line right now.

You have to credit Mikel Arteta because he’s brought this out of him [Havertz],” said former recruitment chief Mick Brown, who remains well-connected within the game.

I’ve heard, though, that if there was the right option out there, Arsenal still want to buy somebody in that position. The problem is there’s not a long list of players who are good enough to play that role and are also available to come to the Premier League. Arsenal won’t want to waste any money they have on a player they don’t need. They’ll be prudent, but I know they’ll be looking for areas they can improve, and I think that will be one even with Havertz playing as well as he has been.”

As well as a new forward, Arteta and Edu are looking to shore up defensively, and it is believed they’re still after goalkeeper Joan Garcia after failing to sign him in the summer.

Garcia agreed personal terms to join Arsenal at the time, as reported by reliable media sources like Fabrizio Romano, but they couldn’t quite agree on a fee with newly-promoted Espanyol.

Arsenal given till January 16 to sign Joan Garcia for just £21m

According to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), Arsenal have been given until January 16 to sign Garcia for just £21 million, with his exit clause set to rise to around £26 million thereafter in the winter.

The story is a complicated one, as it is believed his release clause rose to £26 million in the summer after previously being £21 million. Mundo claim his Espanyol contract will implement a similar scenario in January, with Edu handed another opportunity to bring him in for £5 million less.

Arsenaltechnical directorEdu Gaspar and managing director Vinai Venkatesham

The Spaniard, who played a key role in helping Espanyol achieve promotion last season, has been tipped to become Spain’s number one goalkeeper as Arsenal eye up another move for the future star.

“I like the personality he has, the style he has,” said ex-Espanyol keeper Kiko Casilla.

“He is the future goalkeeper of Spain. He is the present of Espanyol and I hope he is also the future.”

Man Utd watching "monster" £112k-p/w Barcelona star’s new contract talks

Manchester United are among the Premier League teams interested in signing a “monster” defender whose contract talks with his current club are yet to gather pace. The Red Devils ended their five-game winless run over the weekend as they came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford, a victory that slightly eases the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.

Man Utd transfer news

The stories around Old Trafford in the last week or so have been about the future of Ten Hag, and while they haven’t fully gone away, the Dutchman will hope Saturday’s win is the start of a turnaround in results.

Away from the future of Ten Hag, the Red Devils are continuing to be linked with potential new players for when January comes around. Last week, United were linked with a move for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane as he continues talks over a new deal with the German side.

As well as Sane, the agents of PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani have reached out to United over a potential switch to Old Trafford. The forward looks set to leave the French side in the near future, as he’s struggled to make an impact in the French capital. Meanwhile, United are also looking to balance the books and are happy to part ways with Antony and sell him for just £40 million, perhaps with the view towards one of Sane or Kolo Muani coming in.

The transfer stories at Old Trafford do not stop there, as the Premier League side continue to keep an eye on a player they have had an interest in for a while.

Man Utd watching Ronald Araujo as his contract ends in 2026

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo. The Red Devils, alongside Chelsea, are said to be monitoring the Uruguay international as he prepares for talks over a new deal at the Spanish side.

The 25-year-old has been at Barça since 2018, when he joined from Boston River, but he didn’t make his step-up into the first team until around 2020. Since then, Araujo has become a key player for Barça, playing 37 times in all competitions last season.

The defender has yet to play for Barcelona this season, as he continues to recover from an injury, but he is believed to be a firm part of the plans at the Nou Camp still. However, this report states that United and Chelsea are still keeping an eye on Araujo, who has been described in the past by BBC analyst Raj Chohan as an “athletic monster.”

The Red Devils are said to be prepared to make a move for Araujo if talks over a new contract at Barcelona do not progress. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken publicly about trying to keep Araujo, but with his contract expiring in 2026, it means he will enter the final year of his contract next summer if no new deal is agreed, putting United on alert.

Araujo currently earns 134,615 euros a week at Barça, which is roughly £112,174, a figure that he would likely look to increase were he to move to United.

Attacking manager is now open to taking over from Lopetegui at West Ham

Following a disastrous start to his time in charge at West Ham United, Julen Lopetegui is now hanging by a thread. According to The Guardian, the Hammers will “review” the Spaniard’s position if his side loses at home to Everton on Saturday, with the club alarmed by their poor start to the campaign.

Under Lopetegui, who took over in the summer, West Ham have won just three of their opening 10 Premier League games this season, and are currently floating dangerously above the drop zone. Most recently, they were thumped 3-0 by high-flying Nottingham Forest, after which Lopetegui apologised to the fans.

Another defeat to Everton would prompt West Ham to begin searching for both short and long-term candidates to replace the former Spain and Real Madrid boss.

Former Dortmund boss in the running

While The Guardian claim that Lopetegui still has time before West Ham start searching for his replacement, Daily Mail reporter Sami Mokbel says otherwise. According to Mokbel, as relayed by West Ham Zone, former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has already been eyed as Lopetegui’s potential successor.

Mokbel claimed in his column on Thursday that Terzic – who already has previous at West Ham, having served as Slaven Bilic’s assistant from 2015 to 2017 – “has support” at the London Stadium and would be open to taking the job should West Ham decide to part ways with Lopetegui. Fans may appreciate the young coach’s ideas too, known for deploying an “attacking” 4-3-3 system.

The 42-year-old has been without work since stepping down as Dortmund boss at the end of last season. In his three seasons at Dortmund – which were split over four years – the German-Croatian manager won 66% of his games, lifting the German Cup and guiding die Schwarzgelben to a first Champions League final since 2013.

Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic

Mokbel claimed that former Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea boss Graham Potter is also a candidate to replace Lopetegui. Like Terzic, Potter is currently without a job. The Englishman had been a strong candidate to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager after he stepped down from the job in the summer, but the role was eventually filled by the man Potter had replaced at Chelsea in 2022, Thomas Tuchel.

Lopetegui rues Kudus ban

If Lopetegui is to save his bacon against Everton, he will have to do so without one of his key players in Mohammed Kudus. The Ghana international is currently serving a five-game suspension after admitting violent conduct following his red card against Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Kudus had been sent off after pushing Spurs duo Micky van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr in the face, initially receiving a three-game ban. Following a review, however, the ban was extended to five games, meaning West Ham will now be without the forward until December 3.
