Arsenal only have a small glimmer of hope for Ousmane Dembele deal

Although Arsenal have already completed most of their transfer business this summer, with only two days left in the market, the Gunners may well still make another deal or two this year.

Unai Emery has addressed most of the club’s weak areas this summer. The Spaniard has brought in five new players consisting of two defenders, a goalkeeper and two midfielders.

While all five will vastly improve the squad, the Gunners might still be tempted to bring another winger to compliment Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

Alex Iwobi recently signed a new contract with the club but the club could still improve by adding a dynamic winger up front.

With that in mind, Mundo Deportivo via the Metro is reporting that Unai Emery has told the club to make a last-minute loan offer for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

The Breakdown

Ousmane Dembele has been constantly linked with the Gunners throughout the transfer window.

Following a relatively average first season with Barcelona, Dembele’s future at the club has been shrouded in uncertainty. Moreover, with Malcolm now at the club, it seems his place in the squad is very much up for grabs.

Dembele joined Barcelona last summer on an initial £96.8 million fee and although he may not have lived up to the massive fee just yet, the Frenchman still remains one of the best talents in Europe.

The Gunners have spent the majority of their budget, and a loan deal – with a mandatory option to buy – may be the only way to facilitate any move.

Overall the deal seems pretty unbelievable but there’s still the slight chance the Gunners could pull it off.

Tottenham fans are desperate for Christian Eriksen to stay amid interest from PSG

Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a £100million bid for Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen according to The Express.

The Denmark international has become a key figure in the Spurs team since signing for the club in 2013, making 172 Premier League appearances and scoring 41 goals.

He has made a reputation as something of a long-range specialist with his stunning free-kicks and strikes outside the box, and the 26-year-old has also notched up 48 assists thanks to his incredible passing range and vision.

Eriksen was reportedly offered a new contract by Spurs at the start of the summer with his current deal expiring in 2020, but he is yet to commit his future to the club.

His stalling has led Real Madrid and PSG to consider making a move for the star before their transfer window closes at the end of August, and the French champions are said to be readying a £100million bid.

Tottenham fans have been reacting to the rumours on social media and it’s clear to see they don’t want their main creative outlet to leave this summer, regardless of his high price tag.

Arsenal will regret not signing Steven Nzonzi this summer

One of Arsenal’s main areas to strengthen over the summer was in midfield, and with the additions of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, they seemed to have done that.

While both players look like they could turn out to be superb signings, Arsenal still needed to add another defensive midfielder to their midfield numbers.

Over the summer, the club were heavily linked with a move for World Cup winner, Steven Nzonzi following his fall out with Sevilla.

It seemed as if Unai Emery was very keen on bringing the midfielder to the Emirates after working with him for a brief time in Spain.

It now seems that Arsenal will miss out on Nzonzi as the French midfielder has arrived in Rome ahead of his move to AS Roma.

The Breakdown

During his time with Sevilla, Nzonzi turned into one of the better holding midfielders in Europe.

His ability to read the game and ability to take the ball from the back and move it quickly proved to be essential to Sevilla’s performances and it’s something Arsenal could’ve done with.

Lucas Torreira looks like he could be an energetic defensive presence for the Gunners but following Xhaka’s poor performance combined with the Gunners’ lack of depth, Arsenal needed another body in midfield.

With the quality Nzonzi has with the ball and his experience of playing in the league, he could’ve been a vital player in helping Torreira and Guendouzi bed in.

Tammy Abraham the kind of coup Rangers and Scottish football need right now

Rangers are on course to qualify for the group stages for the UEFA Europa League after knocking out Maribor.

The Gers held out for a 0-0 draw in Slovenia to secure a 3-1 aggregate win to book their place in the group stage playoff. A late penalty save from Allan McGregor ensured safe passage for Steven Gerrard’s side who are just one win away from reaching the group stages of a European competition for the first time since 2010. They will face Russian side FC Ufa in the next round.

Gerrard’s start to life as Rangers manager has been extremely impressive. The former Liverpool captain has guided his side to six wins, and four draws in his first ten games after replacing Graeme Murty in the dugout. The former England captain can still add to his squad until the end of August and has reportedly targeted Hearts forward, Kyle Lafferty.

Instead, he should launch an ambitious loan move for Chelsea youngster – Tammy Abraham. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the 20-year-old remains behind Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order and needs first-team football to continue his development. Abraham spent last season on loan at Swansea City where he netted five goals in the Premier League.

His best form came during a spell with Bristol City in the 2016/17 campaign. The Englishman scored an incredible 23 goals in the Championship finishing behind only Chris Wood in the race for the golden boot. Partnering Abraham with Alfredo Morelos would give Rangers the firepower they need to knock Celtic from the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers could offer the youngster regular first-team football and the chance to impress in Europe if they reach the Europa League group stages. This is a move that makes perfect sense for all parties involved.

Gerrard explains why Rangers fans will fall in love with Grezda

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has not wasted any time since being appointed as the club’s new leader.

The Liverpool legend has recruited 12 new players in the transfer window, and more are expected to come through the welcome gates at Ibrox before Friday’s deadline.

One of those players is Albania winger Eros Grezda, who was targeted after Jamie Murphy suffered an injury that is likely to keep him on the sidelines for a significant spell.

According to the Daily Mail, the final details of a £2m switch from Osijek are being ironed out.

While speaking to reporters ahead of Thursday’s Europa League playoff second leg against Ufa, Gerrard explained why the fans will be excited by the new addition, who scored eight goals and created three assists in 37 outings for Osijek.

“He is an excellent player and the fans will love him because he can contribute in the final third. He’s really quick, very direct and comes in with international experience.”

After taking on Ufa, Rangers will face Old Firm rivals Celtic at Parkhead in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

It will be the first time that Gerrard has experienced the intense derby, which has been made more interesting by the fact that the coach will be going up against his former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

West ham should consider tempting Ruben Loftus-Cheek to east-London in January

West Ham haven’t had the best of summers so far and looking at their fixtures after the international break, it may continue.

Following the break, West Ham will face Everton, Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham in their next six fixtures. With no points on the board so far in the league, that’s a pretty daunting run of fixtures for Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean was heavily backed in the summer as the club brought in nine new players, two of those being midfielders. Jack Wilshere was signed on a free while they also brought former Aston Villa man, Carlos Sanchez back to the Premier League. Neither, however, have looked amazing at the base of Pellegrini’s although in fairness, nor has Mark Noble.

West Ham didn’t buy anyone who has the physical presence to play at the base while also being able to burst forward. It may seem controversial considering his current club but West Ham should be looking at Ruben Loftus-Cheek come January.

Maurizio Sarri has recently praised the midfielder but it remains to be seen whether the Loftus-Cheek will be able to displace Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic.

The Breakdown

Such is Loftus-Cheek’s physical stature, that there’s definitely potential for him to play further back in midfield. Technically his ability is superb and he is very comfortable taking the ball in tight areas.

Signing the youngster would also allow Pellegrini to push Wilshere further forward and play in that 10 role that the former Arsenal man is so good in. Pellegrini would have to play Obiang next to Loftus-Cheek but it definitely could be a shrewd piece of business to sign the £16.2 million-rated midfielder in January.

What do you think West Ham fans?

West Bromwich Albion fans back versatile Harvey Barnes as the man for the middle

Though West Bromwich Albion’s start to the season has been far from perfect, the form of Harvey Barnes has been something to shout about at the Hawthorns. Indeed, the Leicester City loanee has hit a new level with the Baggies, helping form the most devastating attack in the Championship right now.

With 15 goals in 6 games for the Baggies, Barnes’ ability to mix in with the likes of seasoned Championship attackers in the shape of Dwight Gayle, Jay Rodriguez and Olivier Burke has been wonderful to watch. At just 20 years of age, his dangerous style of play stands both West Brom and parent club Leicester in good stead for the future.

While we’re waxing lyrical about the midfielder, we recently asked out West Brom supporting readers exactly where they thought his best position was. Versatile enough to operate either out wide or through the middle in the attacking third, it seems the response has been fairly overwhelming.

As you’ll see above, a whopping 79% of polled supporters believe he’s best through the middle, where he can influence the game most.

Considering the creative problems England have in the first-team right now, perhaps this could be a big season for Barnes to announce himself properly.

Domenico Berardi: The ideal man to solve Tottenham’s biggest issue

Tottenham face their toughest test of the season so far following the conclusion of the international break.

The Lilywhites return to Wembley and face a visit from top of the table Liverpool next weekend. The Reds have won all four of their opening games in the Premier League and could welcome £40m signing Fabinho into the team for his first appearance. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s fixture at the national stadium where Tottenham ran out 4-1 winners.

Spurs made history in the summer by becoming the first team since the transfer window was created in 2003 not to sign a single player. With three wins from four, it seems their lack of activity has not hurt them yet. However, if Spurs fail to pick up points in the coming weeks, Pochettino simply must strengthen in January.

A perfect addition to the squad could be Sassuolo forward – Domenico Berardi. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the winger was considered one of Italy’s brightest prospects which prompted Juventus to pay £4m for him back in 2013. He was later loaned back to Sassuolo before re-joining his former club on a permanent deal in 2015 where he remains a key player.

Primarily used on the right wing, Berardi could also operate as the central striker and would provide excellent cover for Harry Kane in the attack. He managed just four goals in the Serie A last season in a difficult campaign but has found the back of the net four times already this campaign. Under Pochettino’s guidance, the 24-year-old could rediscover his goalscoring touch and prove to be a great signing.

If his form continues, Tottenham should definitely bring him to North London in the New Year.

Emilio Izaguirre will never fail to put a smile on Celtic fans faces

As Celtic prepare for what will be an interesting tie later tonight against Rosenborg in the Europa League group stages their fans have been sharing their love for the club’s experienced defender, Emilio Izaguirre. The Honduran left-back was filmed laughing and joking with teammates on the club’s Twitter and the fans adore him.

Back in 2010 the defender signed for Celtic from Honduran club CD Motagua and after spending seven years with the Bhoys in Green he moved to Saudi Arabia for a season to play for Al-Feiha. That didn’t last long at all though and just one season he’s back at Parkhead playing for his beloved Celtic. The fans are delighted to have him back on board and love the way he keeps the morale in the squad high on and off the pitch.

It’s true that the defender isn’t at the highest level he’s ever been at but he’s already made three appearances this season, in Europa League qualifying and in the Scottish League Cup so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Brendan Rodgers trusted him to start over Kieran Tierney in the Europa league tonight to give Tierney a rest ahead of the club’s trip to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock on Sunday.

You can read The Hoops’ verdict on Izaguirre here:

The fans all love Izaguirre back at the club almost as much as he loves being there and they’ll be keen for him to stick around for a few more years before leaving again or hanging up his boots.
